Why advertise on LA Observed?

LA Observed is read daily by an influential and engaged audience of journalists, media professionals, civic leaders, elected officials, bloggers and others who care about what happens in Los Angeles. They are savvy consumers of news—and makers of news—who visit LA Observed several times through the day.

Another reason: advertising helps keep the website going.

How much traffic is there?

LA Observed serves up more than 600,000 pages a month, and the traffic continues to grow. In 2005, 2.1 million visitors looked at five million pages.

What else do you know about the readers?

Many of them start their day by reading LA Observed and consider the site an essential source of news and information about Los Angeles. LA Observed is read in the mayor's office, the editors' offices of the Los Angeles Times and in most of the city's newsrooms, PR agencies and studios. An increasing share of traffic comes from media and political offices in New York and Washington, and from visitors planning trips to Los Angeles. Every month the servers count traffic from more than thirty nations.

OK, how do I advertise?

It's easy. The first step is to decide if you want to support LAObserved as an ongoing sponsor or place a one-time ad.

How does Sponsorship work?

Sponsors get their logo or ad in the most prominent spots near the top of every page. The sponsorship rate is $300 per month. Email for more information.

Prefered ad size is 140 pixels wide by 100 pixels deep. LA Observed will help produce an ad if desired.

How does regular advertising work?

LA Observed accepts ads placed through Blogads, an online service that automates the process. It takes only minutes to fill out the easy form, pay for your ad and see it appear on LA Observed. Ads may run for as short as a week or as long as three months.

There are two pricing levels. Regular ads go for $75 a week, $135 for two weeks or $250 for a month. Click here to place your ad or to find out more.

A reduced rate is available for promoting events open to the public in the Los Angeles area. LA Observed also wishes to support authors, artists, bloggers, non-profit community groups and independent bookstores. The special discount rate is $25 a week, $40 for two weeks or $75 for a month. These ads run on the main page of LA Observed below the other ads. To begin click here.

What if I don't want to use Blogads?

You can place your ad directly with LA Observed. Email for more information.

Do sponsors and advertisers receive special treatment on LA Observed?

Sorry, it doesn't work that way. Advertisers should not assume they will be mentioned more often or be exempt from criticism or even ridicule. Ads are definitely not an endorsement by LA Observed of the advertiser or whatever is being sold.

In some cases, noteworthy new sponsors might be mentioned on the blog, if the editor feels there is news in their presence here.

How about political ads?

Campaigns, politicians and causes are welcome to advertise. Their ads should be in good taste and not libelous, and they should pay close attention to the disclaimer above. Sponsorship and advertising buys them nothing in terms of how they are treated on the blog. Ads are not endorsements, pro or con.

Are ads subject to approval?

Yes. Ads should fit the look and subject matter of LA Observed. The editor is the final judge on whether an ad is appropriate, and a certain amount of personal taste and individual perogative may come into play.

Can I measure the page views of my ad?

BlogAds counts clicks and page views on the ads it services. It is not available for the sponsorship ads.
