LA media having some trouble with this whole Stanley Cup thing

kings-info-graphic.jpgSure, a lot of Angelenos have no interest in hockey and no idea about the Kings But the local team is the hottest thing in the sport right now, their games are on national television, and they pack more fans into Staples Center and downtown bars than the Clippers do. So what's the local sports media's excuse?

The bungles during the Kings' run through the Stanley Cup playoffs have become the stuff of international scorn. The worst offender has been Fox 11's Liz Habib, who gets the names of the Kings' top players wrong and referred the other night to "the ball." Los Angeles stations have been caught using a graphic showing the Sacramento Kings logo, not the LA logo. It has all finally nudged the Kings to post on Facebook this graphic listing basic facts about the team and poking fun at some of the gaffes.

The Deadspin sports blog also weighs in:

There are two major sports teams in California named the Kings. One of them is up north in Sacramento, and they play professional basketball (poorly, as of late). The other is in Los Angeles, and has a very good shot at winning the Stanley Cup. Despite the two franchises' differences in performance and, you know, sport, Los Angeles television stations have struggled in their coverage of the NHL Kings' Stanley Cup Playoffs games.
