SoCal Connected statement: We might be back

KCET says that while it doesn't look good for a sixth season of "SoCal Connected," it still might happen. This from Bret Marcus, executive producer of the award-winning show and senior vice president for News and Factual Programming at the station, or what they are now calling KCETLink.

SoCal Connected is going on hiatus as Season Five ends this week, although we will continue to be on the air twice a week with some original programming and the best of the season.

As happens every year, there are questions about the show's future. And the answer is always the same. SoCal Connected depends on public funding and we don't know at this time what that funding will be. We are very proud of what we have accomplished this
year, and hope SoCal Connected will be back for Season Six.

Staffers on the show have been told there is little chance of the show coming back. Last night, co-host Madeleine Brand posted on Facebook that she was sad about the show's run appearing to end: "A loss for good journalism in L.A."

With the show in hiatus, KCET will re-air highlights of the past season spiced with unaired original segments. The show will move on the schedule to Fridays at 9:30 p.m., repeating on Sundays at 6:30 p.m.
