The predictable response to the death of a famous entertainer. From the NYT:
According to Nielsen SoundScan, which tracks music retailers, sales of Ms. Houston's albums had a nearly 60-fold increase, almost all of it coming as digital downloads. In the week that ended Sunday, she sold 101,000 albums in the United States, up from 1,700 the week before. Last week, 91,000 of her album sales were downloads, compared to 500 the week before. (SoundScan's publicly reported figures are rounded.) Track downloads also surged, along with radio play and online streams.
Michael Jackson records saw a similar jump in sales after his death.
