Baquet is the favorite for top NYT job, Mnookin says

Newsweek's media writer Seth Mnookin gives 2-1 odds that L.A. Times managing editor Dean Baquet will be offered the job of New York Times executive editor. Before coming to L.A. he was the national editor at the NYT. Mnookin says: "He’s popular in the Times’s newsroom and he’s done a whale of a job as the managing editor of the Los Angeles Times. It’s not fair to say he’s one of the best African-American editors in the country because he’s one of the best editors, period." The New York Daily News, meanwhile, says Baquet is not the favorite of the NYT newsroom.
