Dallas trusts its bloggers

The New York Times covers the issue of newspaper sponsored blogs with a small Business section piece that contains an interesting tidbit: the Dallas Morning News does not pre-edit the blog its editorial board publishes. "We have chosen not to edit posts because we believe the best blog entries are fresh, spontaneous and instant," editorial page editor Keven Ann Willey said. Berkeley journalism professor Paul Grabowicz, a former newspaper man, also adds this thought on blogs vs. journalism:

"I think you can do a blog and retain journalistic standards without bleeding the life out of it and without sacrificing what is important about journalism."

Dan Weintraub says in the story that he has been edited since about Sept. 10, and again has no fears that it affects any substance.
