L.A. crime blog goes Euro

The unusual L.A. blog In the Hat has caught the eye of Danish television, which sent a crew to get the tour of Eastside gang turf from "Wally," who monitors gang murders and trials on his website. His post describes hanging with the Danes on York Boulevard and auspiciously meeting a maimed ex-gangster from a bad-news family Wally is tracking. Wally is the nom de blog of an unidentified writer (he goes by Tony Rafael, also made up) who says he is doing a book on the Mexican Mafia. "In the Hat" is taken from the gang slang for putting someone on a death list, he says -- "As in, 'After I became an informant, the Brothers put me in the hat.'"
