David Sheehan signs off

On the 5 o'clock news tonight, Channel 2 entertainment reporter David Sheehan read a report about Mick Jagger being knighted then told the audience that he was leaving the news biz to write and produce videos and work in homeless education. Sheehan's bio says he was the first entertainment reviewer-reporter on any local news program when he began with Channel 2 (then KNXT) in 1971. Since then he has reported for CBS and NBC and Channel 4 here, and also hosted "Backstage in Hollywood" on HBO. He returned to Channel 2 ten years ago -- but as yet there seems to be nothing on the station's website about his departure.

Update 9:15 p.m.: Ron Fineman has put up a piece at On The Record saying, "I first heard about this a couple of weeks ago, but couldn't get it confirmed. But now the word is out, today was entertainment reporter David Sheehan's last day. According to one source, the fear among some there is that Nancy Bauer Gonazales might right replace him with either Lisa Sigell or Lora McLaughlin, two of the ND's favs. I've heard no word yet on who, if anyone, will actually replace Sheehan." Further update: Last week Fineman reported that he is free of colon cancer after a battery of chemotherapy, and today he reports that he married longtime girlfriend Christy Knorr last Friday.
