Magers can't save Sunday

Channel 2 (KCBS) has put its top-line anchors Paul Magers and Laura Diaz on the Sunday 11 p.m. news for the crucial February ratings period, says Ron Fineman.com. It hasn't helped. He reports that last Sunday, KNBC led with a 6.3 rating, followed by KABC at 5.8 and lowly KCBS at 2.8.

Fineman also tweaks Diaz's anchoring style.

Speaking of Diaz, after a report on the murder of a Cerritos couple, she just had to say something. "Tragic loss," she said in her saddest voice. Without her comment, us stupid viewers would never have figured that out.

He also needles KTLA's "News at 10" for bannering an "Exclusive" when reporter Warren Wilson happened to be there as murder defendant Robert Blake broke into song outside the Van Nuys courthouse a week ago. Writes Fineman: "So what if you are the only person to get Blake singing?...I don't know if I could make up something this nutty."
