Time for a change of pace.

   • Kathryn Maese, formerly the news editor of the Downtown News, has joined the Los Angeles Business Journal to write about tech and defense.

   • On their blog, Variety TV editor Michael Schneider and his wife Maria Villar are collecting votes on a name for their baby boy, who's due soon. They are down to ten finalists.

   • Variety editors Jonathan Bing and Dade Hayes have a new book out, Open Wide: How Hollywood Box Office Became a National Obsession, from Miramax Books. They will be feted as part of a L.A. Lit Mixer next Tuesday, Sept. 21, 7 p.m. at Cinespace in Hollywood.
