Mr. Darcy fans come to town

The Jane Austen Society of North America sweeps into the Biltmore downtown today for a weekend-long conference. Among the day's events are a subway outing to Phillipe's, a guided tour of old Los Angeles and what they call 'Jane 'n Jammies':

When was the last time you had an opportunity to share your personal observations about Jane Austen’s novels with others who love them as much as you do, in a relaxed and comfortable setting? On Thursday night, you’ll get your chance! During our “Jane ‘n’ Jammies” event, Janeites will be hosting informal discussions in their hotel rooms. You and your new friends will be sitting on beds and pillows, eating goodies, and talking about the characters in the Austen novels as though they were your best (or worst) friends.

Kenneth Turan of the L.A. Times is hosting a panel of writers, directors, and producers of Austen film adaptations on Saturday. Helen Fielding, author, screenwriter and producer of Bridget Jones’ Diary, is on the panel.
