Press Club confab *

The L.A. Press Club annual meeting that was originally scheduled the night of last week's presidential debate will be held tonight. This is the one where they elect new board members—seven seats are up for grabs—and choose officers. Details at the club website. * Oops: The candidates only talk at the annual meeting. The election is held by mail and tabulated in November. My mistake.

Also, the Los Angeles chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists has issued a statement criticizing Gov. Schwarzenegger for vetoing SB 1164, saying he "reneged on his promise to 'throw open the doors and windows of government.'" The bill would have made it easier for journalists to interview state prison inmates.
