Blogger on the scene

During today's hostage situation at the Mexican consulate near MacArthur Park, Brian Flemming shot video of the SWAT team moving in from his apartment. On his blog he describes dealing with TV stations eager to get his account.

TV news people are nasty, nasty, nasty people. Some of them.

I wonder if some of the reporters I talk to are locally famous. I wouldn't know. I haven't watched TV since 9-11, and rarely watched local news anyway. I wonder if they're offended when I don't recognize them on the phone.

I didn't see his rooftop view aired anywhere. Stations went with the pictures of the perp being shot and street-level scenes. I think anti-terrorism chief John Miller got more camera time than Chief Bratton himself on this one, and of course both got more than Mayor Hahn, who stood stoically behind the chief.
