Bloggers are in

The Los Angeles Press Club has established an entry for weblogs in the online category of its journalism awards this year. Here is the entire category, from the entry form (PDF file):

I1. ONLINE - NEWS, FEATURES OR SERIES
An article originally written for, and first published on, the Internet.
I2. ONLINE COLUMN/COMMENTARY/CRITICISM
One person’s point of view on any subject originally published on the Internet.
I3. DESIGN AND LAYOUT
Best website design - taking into account look as well as accessibility and user friendliness.
I4. WEBLOG
Submit three consecutive days worth of posts.

Rules for the category say the work "must have been produced during 2004 by national or international correspondents or freelancers based in Southern California who work for outlets not based in Los Angeles (non-U.S. outlets for international correspondents and freelancers)." Not sure where that leaves independent journalists who don't blog for anyone. Anyway, entries are $40 for club members, $80 for non-members. The awards will be given at a banquet June 11.
