Tu Ciudad's launch party *

The new upscale Latino bimonthly magazine backed by Emmis took over the Hollywood Roosevelt (and a lane of Hollywood Boulevard) Tuesday night. A few hundred people listened to Go Betty Go and Los Amigos Invisibles, drank free Johnnie Walker and left with bright red goody bags where the best advertiser swag was a $20 off coupon at Armani Exchange and a Hummer-brand wine-opener set. Paparazzi and TV cameras clustered by the door, though I didn't recognize any celebs, and if Antonio Villaraigosa ever showed he kept his profile low. Mingling media figures included Chihuahua-born LAT editorial page editor Andrés Martinez, who is in Tu Ciudad's first issue recommending influential books, among them The Human Factor by Graham Greene and Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez; Times contributing editor Gregory Rodriguez and staff writer Daniel Hernandez; and CityBeat editors Steve Appleford and Dean Kuipers. Also spotted in the house were Hahn deputy Sahar Moridani and former Hahnster Marie Condron, now the marketing and communications director at the chamber of commerce. (LAist covers too.) * Also: Others I'm told were there include writer Josh Kun, cartoonist Lalo Alcaraz, artist Diane Gamboa, Laura Wides of AP and the Daily News' Rachel Uranga.
