Recanting in a B.I.G. way

The paid informant known as "Psycho Mike" who is the chief source for the notion that "Suge" Knight conspired with an LAPD cop to murder Notorious B.I.G. in 1997 says now it was "all hearsay." Chuck Philips reports in the LAT that "Psycho" is a paranoid schizophrenic who recently gave a deposition in a civil suit filed by B.I.G.'s family. Writes Philips: "The statements cast grave doubt on a theory that has gained wide currency: that corrupt police officers played a role in the slaying and that top LAPD officials covered up their actions. The theory, energetically promoted by a former Los Angeles police detective, has been featured in Rolling Stone magazine, on MTV and PBS' "Frontline," and in books and movies. Along the way, it has attained a kind of pop-culture immortality."
