Chasing affluence

Been to the newsstand lately? The number of magazines trying to attract the eyeballs of Southern Californians with money to spend has swelled. In this week's L.A. Business Journal, James Nash talks to analysts who say there's trouble ahead for at least some of Tu Ciudad, VLife, Item, Golf Living, C, Distinction, Angeleno, Los Angeles Confidential, Brentwood, Venice and Santa Barbara (in the order he mentions them.) The story, free on the LABJ site, spends more time with C, based in Santa Monica and aimed at professional women between 25 and 49 with household incomes of $150,000 and up. The editor, Jennifer Smith Hale, is 30 years old and also runs Santa Barbara.

Speaking of affluence: Sunday's LAT real estate story about a couple that can't find anything to buy really got Marc Cooper's goat. Did I mention they have $3 million to spend?
