First thing Friday, 9/16 *

• Mayor Villaraigosa confirms that, yes, his family will be moving to Getty House, at least part-time. A day earlier, he was still being cagey. Next week, one of the mayor's older daughters will get married in the official residence donated to the city in 1975.
• Bob Hertzberg, writing in the Jewish Journal, urges a surprise no vote on the latest LAUSD school bond unless changes are made first.
• Somebody at the LAT shouldn't be happy about this. Fugitive Heather C. Tallchief surrendered in L.A. Thursday to face charges that she drove away with a Las Vegas armored truck in 1993. Before she turned herself in, her attorney let New York Times reporter Randal C. Archibold interview her and watch a video being made to pitch her story to Hollywood. This will hurt too: Archibold is a former LAT reporter. (* Check that: She came through L.A., but surrendered in Vegas.)
• A DWP paperwork blunder led a worker to snip the wrong power line and cause the (Not So) Great L.A. Blackout of 2005. Or so they say.
• More Michael Kinsley good-byes: Fishbowl LA picks up what he'll be doing at the Washington Post, plus reaction from Susan Estrich and Mickey Kaus. And Marc Haefele, posting now at LAVoice.org.
• Here are three names I never expected to see joined. On Saturday night at the Central Library, Sharon Stone and James Woods "will be reading selections from their favorite literature" for the Gregory Peck Reading Series.
• Blogger Rodger Jacobs notes some very high surf is headed for the beaches this weekend, and speculates that may be why sea lions are scuttling sailboats down in Newport.
• This story in Seattle's The Stranger reminds me to ask: why hasn't there been any good reporting yet on what a New Times takeover of Village Voice Media would mean for the LA Weekly, and for ex-New Times L.A. figures like the former editor Rick Barrs?
• There were fifteen—count 'em, fifteen—corrections in Thursday's LAT.
• The Digital Hollywood conference takes over Loews in Santa Monica next week, Sept. 19-21.

TJ Sullivan | Without referencing its recent layoff, the Ventura County Star's editor says the suburban LA paper is now "more streamlined and, in many ways, much more efficient."
Deanne Stillman | We stripped the Indians of their ponies, and now we're doing it to ourselves.

Lee Abrams, Tribune Company's chief innovation officer, doesn’t seem too impressed with the Los Angeles Times. That’s the feeling I got when he appeared at the Los Angeles Press Club.

Seven or fifteen minutes from now I can definitively say I didn't hear the sound of sirens.
