This is posted on the website at KJAZZ, the station at Long Beach State (88.1 FM):

Fields"We at KJAZZ were informed at noon on Friday, September 23, of the passing away of our friend and colleague, Sam Fields. Sam was a respected announcer at KKJZ / KLON since 1990, and before that at KKGO since 1972. His voice, insight and excellent musical taste will be deeply missed by all who knew him both on and off the air. Sam is survived by his sister, Linda Watson and brother-in-law, Summer Watson, as well as his niece and nephew, a brother and sister in Kansas City and several family members in Houston. Services are pending and memorial information will be announced very soon."
