Final demolition of the historic Ambassador Hotel has been moving ahead somewhat out of view up until now. Crews have cleared the grounds, gutted the interior and removed nearly all of the windows. This week, however, the destruction broke into the famous facade that has stood facing Wilshire Boulevard since 1921. The roof and top floor of the six-story northeast wing have been dismantled and lie partly in a pile of rubble on the back side, away from the boulevard. From now until the end, I guess the landmark will just shrink a little every day. The crack LAObserved film crew shot the rear view this afternoon.
