Matt Welch to LAT

The co-creator of the old L.A. Examiner website, editor at Reason magazine, longtime blogger and occasional L.A. Times skewerer is going inside the tent. Welch is joining the Andrés Martinez team at First and Spring as a Times assistant opinion editor. He announces the news on his blog:

I'll be helping shape the section; editing and writing both columns and editorials, hopefully bringing some new voices to paper, and cooking up new schemes in the steamrooms under Spring Street. I'll have the pleasure of working for a smart editor I have a great deal of faith in, Andres Martinez....

As for this here website, I'll continue to yammer on whatever irrelevant topics I see fit, though understandably there'll probably be fewer critiques of the hometown newspaper, especially as regards that shouty stuff at the end of the B section.

Martinez also recently snatched up Rob Greene from the LA Weekly.
