Rob Greene, the LA Weekly's man at the Civic Center, suggests thirteen power grabs that Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa should add to his portfolio this year. A sampling:

The Los Angeles County Department of Health (including King/Drew Medical Center). The county Board of Supervisors has dragged its feet long enough...It will be months before the supes notice it’s gone.

The Los Angeles County Jails. Could the mayor do a better job? Nah, but let’s shake things up a bit. If only for a photo op of Antonio in a prison-guard uniform.

The Los Angeles County Federation of Labor. Whoops — my mistake. He already does.

The Los Angeles Dodgers. The real question is whether he could do any worse, to which the answer is: No one could do any worse.

New Orleans. I mean, no one’s using it right now.

Ba-dump-bump. Also among the Weekly's New Year's lists: Ten worst comics in the LAT, Ten reasons to switch to Scientology, Twenty new Designer Dogs.
