On the schedule: At 5 pm the Times unveils a new Publisher's Forum on local issues, starting with the downtown homeless. Mayor Villaraigosa gives opening remarks, then editorial page editor Andrés Martinez moderates a panel that includes Sheriff Lee Baca, LAPD chief Bill Bratton, LAT columnist Steve Lopez and Santa Monica Mayor Pro Tem Bobby Shriver.

♦ Michael Ovitz was called to testify before the federal grand jury that indicted Anthony Pellicano and their ties are the subject of "a far more extensive investigation than was previously known," the New York Times reports.
♦ The black drug suspect murdered in Men's Central Jail over the weekend was put in a cell with violent Latino inmates, and was killed after trying to protect a 63-year-old black man. Sheriff Baca had warnings not to mix inmates that way.
♦ The Getty sure spends a lot of millions on homes for its museum director—no not Barry Munitz.
♦ Staff of the Cultural Heritage Commission rejected monument status for the Derby. Supporters plan to show up at Thursday's 10 am meeting in City Hall.
♦ MTA's first estimate of the Villaraigosa subway to the sea: $300 million a mile and twenty years.
♦ Ethics Commission: Money is still the mother's milk of Los Angeles politics—and very much so. Related: Mayor Villaraigosa formed a new committee to raise money for his LAUSD takeover campaign.
♦ Villaraigosa will take the air in KABC'S helicopter to read traffic reports and chat with the morning hosts, just after 6 am. Who knew he was such an early riser?
♦ Jerry Thornton is new the inspector general of the LAUSD, moved up from #2.
♦ State officials conclude their probe of the Wildlife Waystation.
♦ Correction from last week: Wendy Mitchell is the former chief of staff to state Sen. Denise Ducheny.
♦ The Clippers traded backup Chris Wilcox to the Seattle SuperSonics for forward Vladimir Radmanovic.
