The Breeze has a follow on the Metropolitan Water District not hiring Mayor Villaraigosa's preferred candidate, Richard Katz. The agency offered the top job to its attorney Jeffrey Kightlinger. Says Katz, the Villaraigosa commissioner and former Assemblyman: "It was the difference between change and the status quo. At the end of the day, the old guard felt more comfortable with the status quo."
