⇒ Mayor Villaraigosa told a press conference that he agrees with Cardinal Roger Mahony that churches should not be called upon to enforce federal immigration laws. Mahony followed up his defiant remarks about immigrants in today's Los Angeles Times with a live appearance on "Airtalk with Larry Mantle" on KPCC this morning (audio).
⇒ Superior Court Judge Robert J. Sandoval, 56, died Tuesday of a heart attack suffered while undergoing treatment for leukemia at City of Hope Hospital. He gained notoriety when then-City Attorney Burt Pines hired him in 1978 as one of Los Angeles' first openly gay prosecutors. (Daily Journal)
