Another officer down

An off-duty Los Angeles Police Department motor officer was killed today while speeding through a red light on Pearblossom Highway in Palmdale. His name has not yet been released. The Daily News says witnesses saw the officer traveling more than 80 miles an hour and weaving through traffic before he ran the red light. He may have been going too fast to stop and accelerated to get through the intersection safely, police think. Three Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies have also died in the past week.
