Campaign surprise: Arellano a convict *

La Opinión reported today that Christopher Arellano, the labor candidate in the East Side school board race, was convicted of robbing a Pioneer Market in 1992, then had a second run-in with the law and did jail time three years later. At the time he was known as Robert Christopher Bruce but legally changed his name. Union leaders so far are standing behind him. Here's the story in Spanish; KPCC's Adolfo Guzman Lopez did a news report at 2 pm.

* Better translation? (4:10 pm) The Arellano campaign got in touch with me to say the charges were shoplifting, not robbery.

And good news from La Opinión: Mary Zerafa has been named to the newly created position of General Manager of ImpreMedia Digital. She will oversee all Internet and digital initiatives for the company's seven papers, including La Opinión. Zerafa was previously the corporate director of marketing for ImpreMedia and vice president of market development and new media at La Opinión.
