Sad excuse for an election

Just over ten percent of registered voters in the 2nd Board of Education district cast ballots in Tuesday's election—for a total of 13,561 votes. So much for the persuasion of the Los Angeles Times and LA Weekly on the East Side: the candidate both papers endorsed, Ana Teresa Fernandez, didn't finish last, but close to it. Garcia and Arellano do it all over again June 6. Unofficial canvas:

Monica Garcia 6,277 47.15%
Christopher Arellano 2,544 19.11%
Enrique Gasca 1,694 12.72%
Ana Teresa Fernandez 1,457 10.94%
Maria Lou Calanche 1,342 10.08%
