New York mayor Michael Bloomberg stepped before the cameras today at P.S. 282 in Brooklyn and introduced Antonio Villaraigosa as Alcalde Veea-ga-rosa, before correcting his pronunciation (and switching, mercifully, to English.) Video at two speeds is on Bloomberg's official website, which by the way is quite an improvement over the Los Angeles mayoral site.

Of course the mayor doesn't have to leave town to hear his name garbled. Who can forget Villaraigosa's first press conference as mayor-elect when John Mack—destined to become head of the police commission—introduced the victorious candidate to the media as Antonio Villa-gee-rosa?
