♦ Vanity Fair's Pellicano writer John Connolly has been notified by the U.S. Attorney of a threat against his life, Deadline Hollywood reports. Separately, Pellicano's ex-wife accuses Connolly of using off-the-record quotes and inaccuracy.
♦ Former Times editor John Carroll gave another speech calling newspapers and good journalism in peril because of corporate greed and search-engine algorithms: "How long has it been since an editor was so rash as to cite public service in justifying a budget? You might as well ask to be branded with a scarlet N, for naïve. Our corporate superiors regard our beliefs as quaint, wasteful and increasingly tiresome."
♦ Deluxe, a 24-page "magazine" edited by celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe to be "very Robertson Boulevard, very insider-y," will come with the September issue of Seventeen to high-income SoCal households.
♦ "The New Los Angeles" airs tonight at 10 pm on KCET as part of the California and the American Dream series. The film produced by Lyn Goldfarb covers the evolution of Los Angeles politics and labor from Tom Bradley's election in 1973 to Antonio Villaraigosa's victory last year.
♦ Tickets for Last Remaining Seats are on sale through the Los Angeles Conservancy. Chinatown, Rebel Without a Cause, Mark of Zorro and Harold Lloyd shorts are on the bill.
