A&W adHappy days are over for the last A&W Root Beer stand in Southern California that still offers car-hop service. It has been at 1267 W. Holt Boulevard in Ontario since 1960, but the couple that runs the place has had a hard time selling enough root beer to stay, well, afloat. Car hops stopped wearing roller skates a long time ago—bad for worker's comp—and drive-in business has waned. Larry and Sherrill Roan have worked together seven days a week since 1971 and are ready to retire. They sold the place and think it might be razed for a used-car lot. Last day is April 30.
