Honoring Deputy Maria Rosa

Maria Cecilia RosaIf you are heading into the Civic Center this morning, plan on encountering traffic for the funeral of murdered Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Maria Cecilia Rosa. To accommodate law enforcement officers wishing to honor her memory at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, Hill Street will be closed between Ord and 1st and no vehicles will be allowed to exit the 110 freeway at Hill starting at 6:30 am. Temple will be closed between Grand and Spring. The city advises, "please expect heavy delays in the Chinatown area. Broadway, Cesar Chavez Av and Alameda St will be heavily impacted." When the 9 am funeral ends, freeways from downtown to All Souls Cemetery in Long Beach could feel the impact. Street closure details and map.

Rosa, born 31 years ago in Sonora, Mexico, lived in Pomoma and was recently on loan to the county's homicide task force. She is survived by two brothers and a sister. Bio. Detectives have some leads in last Tuesday's murder on South Eucalyptus Avenue in Long Beach:

Robbery appears to have been the motive, but Homicide Detectives are systematically investigating all possible leads. Currently, Long Beach Homicide Detectives are requesting the public’s assistance in locating two possible suspects. Suspect #1 is described as a male Hispanic in his late teens to early twenties, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt. Suspect #2 is described as a male Hispanic in his late teens to early twenties. Both suspects were seen riding bicycles near the residence at the time of the incident. An unidentified bicycle was found near the scene.
