♦ A man who lives on a sandbar in the Los Angeles River near Griffith Park had to be rescued today when the channel flow swelled with rain runoff.
♦ Last week Jason Leopold reported at Truthout.org that Karl Rove had been indicted. Already this week he threatened to sue Slate writer Eric Umansky, who had the audacity to blog "Don't trust Truthout.org. Their stories have always struck me as hyperbolic and careless" and to point out Leopold's very checkered (and uncomfortably L.A.-centric) journalistic history.
♦ Rich Luna, unpopular managing editor of the Ventura County Star, left the paper at the conclusion of an investigation into his ethics. It's the fourth third time in recent years Luna has abruptly left a senior newspaper position. A technical snafu with Sunday's Ventura paper is apparently unconnected. (Related Romenesko letter.)
♦ Gary Toebben will be hired as the new president and CEO of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce. He comes from the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce.
