Expect cameras

This evening at 6 pm, Green Dot Public Schools will hold a lottery to in South L.A. to determine who gets 640 student slots at five new high schools serving the Jefferson and Santee High areas. About 1,100 parents signed up, representing half of the middle school kids who will be entering high school, Green Dot says. It's a natural TV news story: there will be suspense, possibly emotional winners and losers, and apparently a big crowd. As the Green Dot press advisory milks it, "hundreds of anxious parents will huddle together in South Los Angeles, hoping they hold a winning lottery number. But this is not your everyday million dollar lottery; this is the lottery ticket which will determine their child’s future." It's at Victory Baptist Church.
