Miraculous recovery

A supposedly paralyzed woman who sued the cities of Long Beach and South Pasadena claiming she broke her arm in wheelchair falls jumped out of her chair and ran from Las Vegas police after being arrested on suspicion of fraud. "She's not paralyzed," Long Beach deputy city attorney Belinda Mayes told the Press-Telegram. Laura Lee Medley had insisted she was paralyzed in a drunk driving accident a decade ago. Turns out Medley is a fugitive with arrest warrants in Arizona for forgery and in San Bernardino County for fraud.

Also: The Press-Telegram ran a story on Sunday about twelve Long Beach and Lakewood businesses—including Acres of Books—being sued by a single quadriplegic man represented by a San Marcos law firm called the Center for Disability Access.
