Savvy women—or just lucky?

Two talker stories of the day:

RodriguezDid Michelle Rodriguez know what she was doing when she acted breezy and cavalier about spending time in the Los Angeles county jail? The actress was released after serving just four hours and twenty minutes of a sixty-day sentence for violating probation. Later that night, she was spotted out partying in Hollywood. She benefitted from the routine release of non-violent offenders due to the overcrowded jails, say the authorities. "Needless to say, our prosecutors are not happy about this," said Contessa Kellogg Mankiewicz, a spokeswoman for City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo.

Then there is Anne Majerik. She won $2.1 million in damages Tuesday from Beverly Hills matchmaker Orly Hadida after suing when she wasn't satisfied that she received enough for the $125,000 in fees she forked over. Majerik claimed she was promised three years of introductions to "extremely successful and highly educated, charismatic, kind, down-to-earth romantics who enjoy a life of fine dining, traveling and leisure...[and] earn way above $1 million per year and have an estate of up to $20 million." Hadida, however, says Majerik was "impolite, rude and disrespectful" to the men she met—and has sued matchmakers before. But she got away with it, pending appeal.
