Smoke out on the Promenade

Third Street Promenade may be the next spot where Santa Monica bans smoking. The city attorney is studying a prohibition on outdoor smoking anywhere on the Promenade, including on restaurant patios or in doorways or movie lines. The city council there already has banned smoking in parks, on the beach and the pier, at bus stops and within twenty feet of public buildings. Deputy city attorney Adam Radinsky told the Santa Monica Daily Press he is leaning toward recommending the council impose a full ban.

While in Bay City: The LookOut runs a story on the buzz about Santa Monica City Council member Kevin McKeown, who has switched from the Greens to the Democrats, changed his hair style and lost sixteen inches from his waistline. He weighed nearly 320 pounds, but on a European trip discovered— D'oh! —that as he rode bikes and ate less he lost girth. "So I decided to keep it up," he told the website. He's about 205 now. Before (left) and after.
