Election afternoon news

• Voting results after 8 pm: Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder results page, Secretary of State results, NBC-4.
• Gov. Schwarzenegger will spend election night in Sacramento before heading north Wednesday to begin campaigning by bus in Samoa, a picturesque spot near Eureka that probably doesn't see many statewide candidates.
• Chief Bratton commends several Southwest Division officers and paramedics for literally saving the life of wounded officer Kristina Ripatti on Saturday night. Bratton also describes "a significant uptrend of assaults on police officers," including eighteen officers shot at this year.
• Culver City and Los Angeles firefighters doused an early-morning blaze at sound stage 27 at Sony Studios. The LAFD blog has a report, photos and video.
• Urban analyst, author and New America Foundation senior fellow Joel Kotkin has begun blogging at Fresh Inc, the blog of Inc. magazine.
• The last-place Galaxy fired coach Steve Sampson.
