Beaches at Ballona Creek reopen

The Pacific worked its magic, dissipating the raw sewage that came down the creek earlier in the week. Public health officials say the surf is safe again on the Marina Peninsula and in Playa Del Rey. Safe being a relative notion, of course, when you hear surfers talk about all the diseases they catch in the bay.

For a beach scene the way it's supposed to be, check out T.J. Sullivan's pic of dolphins (or are they porpoises?) in the surf off Venice Beach last weekend.
