Reseda surprise

ResedaToday's heat sneaked up on people, even in the Valley — though you should never really be shocked when the thermometer crosses a hundred in August. Reader Arthur Medrano emails after doing a little research:

Just wanted to you know that I just got a call from my wife who works in Reseda. (We also live in Reseda and I work in El Segundo). Yahoo weather is currently showing the temperature at 4:20 pm in Reseda is 101 degrees!!! I don't think it was suppose to be this hot today! I just did some checking, it is actually cooler in Mojave AND Ridgecrest, which both check in at 99 degrees. Death Valley is currently checking in at 101 degrees. How often does the Valley get to say it is the same temperature as Death Valley on a Summer day? By comparison, it is a cool 74 degrees in El Segundo...where I am right now.

Just an odd weather day...thought I would pass it along.

Arthur

Thanks, Arthur. Gives me the chance to show the postcard of Sherman Way and Reseda Boulevard in 1963. The Big Donut and all the other visible establishments are gone, although the 1948 Reseda Theatre (designed by S. Charles Lee) behind the donut is being remodeled by the Community Redevelopment Agency.
