Country music stars were shot at a bunch of local locations, including Topanga Beach (Kenny Chesney, in a hammock), Olvera Street (Wynonna Judd, in a convertible), Universal Studios' backlot (Willie Nelson, Shelby Lynne and Shooter Jennings on hogs), the Sunset Plaza Best Western (Keith Urban, on the floor) and Ventura Farms in Thousand Oaks (Julie Roberts, on a red bicycle.)
  • In the November Atlantic, Ann Louise Bardach reports on enduring suspicions about who was behind the first case of airline terrorism in the Americas. They're calling it "a tale of thwarted dreams, frustrated justice, and murder in the sky." Virginia Postel also has a piece on photographer Julius Shulman: The Iconographer.
  • Redesign time at the Los Angeles Business Journal. Robert Landry, formerly of the New Orleans Times-Picayune and a designer at the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat, joins as the paper's first art director.
