LA Observed joined a full and enthusiastic house at last night's performance of Wicked. Afterward, intern Sean mugged with Elphaba's freshly de-greened Eden Espinosa, who emerged from the Pantages stage door in a sweatshirt with a Toto-style dog in tow. Not so glamorous, this L.A. theater life. Instead of a waiting limo, Espinosa was escorted by security across Hollywood Boulevard to her car in the open parking lot on Argyle. Megan HiltyCo-star Megan Hilty, who plays Glinda, trudged up the ramp wearing cargo pants, jeans jacket and L.A.-casual flip-flops. Both women chatted pleasantly with fans and no one cared what they wore, but there was some chatter about our mezzanine row mate. Picture a rather large man in shorts, sneakers and gym socks squeezing in late for the second act — or better yet don't.

Strange Oscar weekend sightings: San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom (with a blond) picking up coffee at the Urth Cafe on Beverly Drive this morning. Yesterday, I observed Beach Boy Brian Wilson try in vain to get the attention of a shoe clerk at Macy's in Sherman Oaks. Ignored, he finally stalked out toward the garage.
