Drew university sues county
Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science filed a $125-million lawsuit claiming breach of contract when L.A. County ended the medical school's relationship with King/Drew Medical Center last year. LAT
New planning principles for L.A.
The Planning Commission claims it will try to beautify the city, push more density and choose walkability over traffic flow. LAT, Curbed LA
Jerry Roberts formally demands retraction
The ex-editor wants the Santa Barbara News-Press to run a front-page correction to its Sunday story on child porn being found on an office computer that Roberts had used. LAT
Joe Francis stays in jail
He gets a 35-day sentence and $5,000 fine for contempt of court from a federal judge. LAT
Ethics award for LAT and News-Press staffers
The L.A. Times and New York Times receive a Payne Award from the University of Oregon for publishing a story in June 2006 on the U.S. government project to access the SWIFT financial records database. Jerry Roberts and eight other reporters and editors who left the Santa Barbara News-Press over owner Wendy McCaw's ethics also are honored.
