Human touch in the courtroom

Before this morning's parade of defendants began at the LAX courthouse on South La Cienega, the court reporter in Department B sat down at her station and lovingly placed a bonsai tree on her desk. Our witness found it a tender personal statement amid the cold uniformity of the surroundings. There's a lot of that in Judge Robert O'Neill's court. The bailiff covers her desk with stuffed animals.
