Looks like it for 'Life & Times' *

GraphicTonight's show at 7pm on KCET has Tom Brokaw looking back at the 1960s, Vicki Curry checking in on the Orange County Museum of Art's "Birth of the Cool" exhibit, and a repeat feature on LAUSD bus driver and mentor Tanya Walters. Then the award-winning local news and feature show looks to be going dark, as reported in October. This note on the L&T website is unsigned:

Yes, it's true. After 16 years on the air L&T is coming to a close. We have been wanting to revamp and renew the series for a while. A short hiatus will allow us to be back in the spring with a new weekly series. We will still cover important southern California issues, people and culture but it will be in a fresh, updated format plus an enhanced website with plenty of resources and viewer interaction. The new show will meld the best of California Connected and Life & Times. It's tentative title is "SoCal Connected." (Ideas for names are welcome!) The new series will air in prime time.

It's sad to see Life & Times go. But after 16 years I am looking forward to something new and better. In the meantime, our 7pm time slot will be filled with Tavis Smiley. Thanks to everyone for your all you support and feedback through the years. We'll see you in the spring!

The one-of-of-a-kind news show, probably the most L.A.-savvy production on local television, will be sorely missed. It won 22 Los Angeles area Emmy Awards and 25 Golden Mikes. Here's the team.

* Still around: The show airs through Dec. 28, then yields to Tavis Smiley.
