You know all those carpool lanes being built squeezed onto freeways, often requiring a year or two of construction traffic mess? MTA and Caltrans are discussing now making some of them toll lanes. Even carpoolers would have to pay. LAT

USC hospital gets $60 million gift

One of the 10 am presentations today at the City Council will be for retired USC journalism professor Ed Guthman, the former president of the City Ethics commission, ex-National Editor of the Times and long-ago press secretary to Robert F. Kennedy.
