  • Gov. Schwarzenegger signed a bill that will let Los Angeles County voters decide on a sales tax hike for transit. The new state budget, however, cuts the county by $129 million. LAT, DN
  • State legislators get free gasoline credit cards and spent $220,000 of taxpayer money the first seven months of this year. AP
  • Jim Hahn and Ron Kaye clash at L.A. Chamber event. LAT, Ron Kaye
  • Patrick Goldstein opines that "film critics, like TV and theater critics, are especially well equipped to analyze today's politics...since our campaigns are -- as has surely been obvious for some time -- far more about theater and image creation than politics." LAT
