Daily News lays off 4, Haddock leaves

The way things work at the guild papers is the union for some reason announces who has been let go. So, Southern California Media Guild official Vicki Di Paolo has sent this email around:

Daily News Human Resources has confirmed the following people are laid off effective today: Photographer John Lazar has a meeting with HR at 12:30 today. John learned he was being laid off yesterday. Since he had plans to leave sports reporter Timothy Haddock stepped up and took a voluntary lay off. Features reporter Evan Henerson and business reporter Barbara Correa were notified this morning they are laid off.

In speaking with Dennis Healy earlier today he said these lay offs are for financial reasons - the decisions made, on who will be laid off, are very difficult to make they are all good people.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call me. If I do not have an immediate answer for you I will get one and get back to you. I will be meeting with the Employer as soon as possible.

* Update: The newsroom also confirms the departure of Mark Kellam, the last staffer at ValleyNews.com, the DN's experiment in citizen journalism.
