The Orange County Register's communications manager is hosting a new blog to tell the rest of the story [aka the good news] about the paper and newspapers in general.

Very little has been published about the successes and progress within the industry, specifically OCR, but often the good news gets lost in the doom-and-gloom reports. As any of our journalists will tell you, it's always best to provide a balanced story.

There are plenty of interesting developments around our people, products, initiatives, promotions, sponsorships, awards, events, web site growth, that illustrate the impact we have in our community. To that end, I am hosting a blog called INSIDE THE OC REGISTER that documents our contributions to the community and the steps we're taking to provide more value to our customers.

His memo to the staff is after the jump.

Subject: New Inside the Register blog

Greetings:

We've read plenty of stories documenting the woes in the newspaper industry, and many pundits are quick to share their opinions or predict its ultimate demise.

We also know there's a need to educate the outside world that we're a company that "delivers more than newspapers." The concept and blog posts have been taking shape over recent weeks, but it officially launches today. You can read it at http://insideocr.freedomblogging.com.

Please take a moment to read a few of the current items on this blog. You are invited to post comments to these posts as well (signing up for Pluck is quick and painless, if you haven't already done so). If you're interested in following this blog, you can sign up to receive it on your browser through an RSS feed at http://insideocr.freedomblogging.com/feed.

We have a loyal following of readers, current or potential advertisers, business partners and community organizations (and associates!) who are passionate about our products - many of whom may be interested in hearing our story and sharing their thoughts through this blog. Please forward the blog link below to people you might be interested, or drop a link onto your social network of choice.

Please e-mail me if you have any questions or comments. I may be calling on you directly in the days to come, but please send me your ideas for topics as well. Thanks!
