Freedom to declare bankruptcy

The parent company of the Register in Orange County is expected to become the latest newspaper company to slide into chapter 11, the Wall Street Journal reports today. Freedom Communications, majority owned for more than 70 years by the Hoiles family, has reached agreements with its lenders to restructure its debts, according to sources. With annual revenue of about $700 million, Freedom owns the Register and more than 30 other daily papers and eight TV stations. Via a tweet from Romenesko.
